A goal is something beyond where you are. If you want to get from here to your goal, you must take the steps required to get there. Goals don't just automatically "happen." Obvious? You bet! But if this is obvious, why do so many people set goals then never achieve them? Goals don't happen on their own. If you want the goal, you have to do the work. This means taking the steps necessary to get there, day-by-day.

Think about it. How well and how often do you actually do Set Goals Factor 4J? (Take at Least One Step Towards Each Goal -- Daily.) No question, this is a major driver of personal and professional success.

A high commitment (4J rated 8 or better) suggests your commitment to your goals shows up in your actions -- every single day. You have a sense of satisfaction and pride at the end of the day, because you know that you've made progress -- however large or small -- on the things that mean the most to you. By taking a daily step toward your most heart-felt goals -- regardless of the other demands on your time -- you are continually rewarded knowing that your life is moving in the right direction. Daily accomplishments increase your momentum as you check off completed objectives -- one-by-one.

A lack of commitment suggests you are someone who can let weeks go by without making any real progress on your goals. There are too many days when your goals are sacrificed to other demands that seem more important, or more urgent. This makes it impossible to accurately predict when you will accomplish your goals -- because you have no idea how much time you'll have available to dedicate to them.
